André Nocquet's video archives part 3: André Nocquet and Self Defense
Monday, 28 September 2009 00:00
André Nocquet en stage
I am absolutely delighted to be able to present you this series of long lost videos, part of master André Nocquet's archives. Michel Desroches, my first teacher, who owns a fair amount of Nocquet's articles and videos from that era decided to offer these videos to the entire Aikido community and therefore, to publish them on his own brand new website as well as on mine. Keep watching this page as I will be adding videos regularly.

This fourth video is a demonstration circa 1950 by Kawaishi Mikonosuke, the founder of French Judo. Also featured is André Nocquet, the first uchi deshi of O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. The video is quite patchy at the end but I thought the footage was still interesting.

This third video presents a film by André Nocquet in order to introduce and promote the practice of Japanese Budo for personal defense. Probably shot before Nocquet went to Japan (before 1955), this footage has never been see before.

This video is the second of the series I am planning to release. We can see very rare shots of Morihei Ueshiba out of the tatami, most probably in Tokyo, walking in one of the parks of the Japanese capital. André Nocquet can be seen as well. Once I know more about who are the other individuals in the video, I will update this page.

This film was produced by André Nocquet, 8th dan Aikido, 4th dan Judo and direct student of masters Kawaishi and Ueshiba. Nocquet spent 3 years in Japan between 1955 and 1957 as the first foreign uchi deshi of the fonder of Aikido at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. This section presents a common training day in Shijuku's dojo.
