Tarn is a department of 5 758 km² in the Midi-Pyrénées region in the south-west of France, named after the Tarn River. It was formed in 1790 of the three dioceses of Albi, Castres and Lavaur, belonging to the province of Languedoc. In 1906, the population was 330,533. In 1999, it stood at 343,402.
Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is a town and commune in the Haute-Savoie département, in France. The town ranges in altitude from 765 to 1600m, and three quarters of its area are part of a natural reserve and thus completely uninhabited. The Giffre river, a tributary of the Arve, has its source in Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, coming from numerous cascades in the nearby mountains. The commune is on the Swiss border.

It is owned by Compagnie des Alpes. Serre Chevalier consists of the town of Briançon, with the villages of Chantemerle, Villeneuve, and Le Monêtier-les-Bains. The ski champion Luc Alphand was born and lives in the valley of the resort.
