New Video: Guillaume Erard Seminar on La Reunion Island
Last December, I had the chance to travel to the Reunion Island for the first time at the invitation of the Saint -Pierre Aikido Club to give a nine-day seminar in the South of the Island. This invitation is the result of an encounter more than ten years ago with Stéphane Ethève and Yanis Hoareau during Philippe Gouttard’s summer seminar in Mèze, where we had the opportunity to practice together. Nowadays, both of them are in charge of their club and they invite Philippe every year. They are also eager to broaden their horizons and that of their students, so they undertook to fly other teachers over and to my surprise, my name was on their list.
Yanis and Stéphane also took the advantage of an afternoon break to ask me questions about my practice and my vision of Aikido. The video is posted on their YouTube channel to which I encourage you to subscribe.
I came back to Tokyo with my head filled with wonderful memories. I also realized that it was possible for even a small club in the middle of nowhere to set up a demanding, enthusiastic and a technically advanced practice that did not pale in comparison to that of more prestigious dojo. I would like to sincerely thank all the practitioners and teachers for their hospitality and I hope to come back to see them some day soon.
