Video Interview: Tada Shihan in Gesso-ji

Tada Shihan is one of the last greats of Aikido who have had the chance to study under its founder, Ueshiba Morihei. Tada Shihan has had an influential career, both in Japan, and Europe, where he spent several years setting up the Italian Aikikai. He now teaches weekly at his dojo in Gessoji Temple in Tokyo, as well as the Aikikai Hombu Dojo.

Guillaume Erard and Fabio Gygi interviewing Tada Shihan

I was very fortunate to be given the chance to interview him, with the help of one of his close students, Mr Fabio Gygi, who knows particularly well the difficult cultural and linguistic nuances of Tada Shihan's work. After the interview, upon realizing that I had an interest for Aikido history, and that I had once been a member of the group created by André Nocquet, Tada Shihan went home to pick up some archive document and give them to me. I therefore spent another hour with this true gentlemen discussing over old photos and videos.
