Last weekend I had the privilege of traveling to Korea with my colleague Mihaly Dobroka to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Korea Aikido Federation. The event brought together an impressive lineup of teachers, including Igarashi Kazuo Shihan, Takimoto Seizo Shihan, and Yoon Junhwan Sensei, as well as over two hundred practitioners from across the country. The atmosphere was both celebratory and deeply inspiring, as we reflected on the federation’s remarkable history and the vision of its founder, Yoon Dae-Hyun Sensei.
Over two days, we shared the mat through classes and demonstrations. Mihaly and I were honored to contribute alongside the senior Japanese teachers and to experience firsthand the technical level, energy, and hospitality of the Korean aikido community. My own class built upon the principles emphasized throughout the weekend, showing ways to apply those fundamentals in a direct and economical manner. We also had the opportunity to give enbu, supported by the ukes of the Korea Aikido Federation, which was a moment of sincere exchange and mutual respect.
I am pleased to share that a video of my demonstration is now available, together with many others from the weekend. It offers a glimpse into the spirit of the celebration, the depth of the practice, and the bonds of friendship that connect us beyond borders. I believe the future of aikido in Korea is extremely bright, and it will remain my honor to support and collaborate with the Korea Aikido Federation in the years ahead.
